ASR in the Community

Even though it’s been more than a year since the Homeless Census and Survey projects of 2013, ASR is continuing to inform community members and partners and help them work through the data provided by their projects. Beginning on the 5th of February with a presentation to the San Francisco Board of supervisors, ASR’s homeless specialists Peter Connery and Samantha Green are having a series of events building upon the data from last year.

Next, they went to New Orleans for the annual conference held by the National Alliance to End Homelessness. There, Peter presented on the best practices for youth Point-in-time counts, a new focus of HUD and many communities around the country. Youth homeless present a unique challenge for homeless organizations and the youth themselves have concerns that are not present when dealing with adults experiencing homelessness.

In addition to these two events, there are a few upcoming events involving ASR and the issue of homelessness. On March 7th, Susan Brutschy will be joining Peter and Sam and the California Family Resource Association to give a presentation on families experiencing homelessness, what resources are available to them, and what resources are lacking for those families. If you would like to join that webinar, it will begin at 10:30 am on Friday. Click here to register.
On May 20th, Santa Cruz County will see its annual Project Homeless Connect event. Moving to the Kaiser Permanente Arena for the first time, Project Homeless Connect brings individuals experiencing homelessness together with local service providers, health care professionals, and others. And, for the first time, Watsonville will hold its on PHC event on November 5th.
