Lisa Colvig-Niclai, MA
Vice President of Evaluation
Ms. Colvig-Niclai is a seasoned community planner, researcher and facilitator with over 18 years of experience of connecting people, ideas and resources to help build better communities. With ASR since 1999, Lisa heads up the company’s Bay Area office, where her primary role is to design needs assessments, facilitate strategic plans, provide guidance on program development, and create evaluations with various levels of rigor and complexity. Across these methodologies, Lisa infuses key approaches such as participatory planning, monitoring and evaluation (PM&E), theory-based evaluation (TBE) and empowerment evaluation (EE) to help groups identify the change they need to see, the efforts they need to create that change, and the most relevant data to tell their story. Lisa directs multi-year research partnerships with First 5 Alameda, First 5 Contra Costa, First 5 Sacramento, First 5 San Benito, First 5 San Francisco, First 5 Santa Clara, First 5 Santa Cruz, First 5 Solano, Marin Community Foundation, Kaiser Permanente in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, and Juvenile Probation in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Before joining ASR, Lisa worked abroad for four years as a technical consultant with Plan Indonesia, helping to facilitate community strategic planning, sponsor-child communications, and evaluation of child-focused community development projects. She particularly enjoys designing visuals (diagrams, logic models, dashboards, briefs) to display data and information in more compelling and useful ways.
In 2013, Lisa helped formulate ASR Global Consulting, a network of seasoned professionals from around the globe who have established their careers in the international development community. In service of ASR’s overall mission to help people build better communities, the specific mission of ASR Global Consulting is to provide the international development community with high quality consultation for program design, evaluation and cost benefit analyses. In turn, ASR Global Consulting will also be a conduit to bring best practices in the international development community to the US.
Lisa earned a Master's degree in Evaluation from Stanford University. She received her Bachelor's degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz with honors in Cultural Anthropology and South East Asian Studies, and an additional focus in Economic Development. In 1995, she attended Institut Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (IKIP) in Malang, East Java, Indonesia, where she deepened her knowledge about the Indonesian socio-cultural-economic landscape, language and arts.
Lisa has two sons in elementary school. Originally from rural northern California, Lisa has traveled extensively in South East Asia and the Pacific, and is proficient in spoken and written Indonesian. She actively participates in the local Indonesian community, and she owns Bali Pillows +, a company that designs and imports traditional Balinese textiles in contemporary forms of home decor.
