Chris Soebroto, M.A.
Chris has 32 years combined experience in the fields of community development and environmental sustainability. He has worked with Plan Netherlands for 22 years and with Plan International in Indonesia and Colombia for nearly 10 years. His responsibilities there included staff and volunteer training, concept and strategy development, management of intercultural communications, grants management, and corporate environmental sustainability. His areas of expertise are Child Centered Development, children’s publications (magazine), community-based renewable energy development and sustainability analysis and reporting. His methodological expertise includes participatory assessments, project development, and monitoring and evaluation. He enjoys thinking out the box and listening carefully to the voices that are never heard.
In 2012, Chris became an independent consultant and founded Planet2050.nl, specializing in environmental sustainability. In 2013 he joined ASR Global Consulting, a network of experienced professionals from around the globe who have established their careers in the international development community.
Chris earned a Master's degree in Cultural Anthropology from Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Travel Management from NWIT in Breda, Netherlands, and also has a degree in Naval Architecture from Westlawn School of Yacht Design, Stamford, Conn., USA.
Chris is married and has three children and four grandchildren. Born in Indonesia, Chris spent most of his life in The Netherlands. He started his career in the travel industry before moving to Plan International. Chris has traveled widely in Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia, and has worked and lived in Indonesia and Colombia. He is also an author and has written several books in English, Dutch and Indonesian.
