Census and Survey
- ASR has been conducting homeless census and surveys since we pioneered our method in Monterey County in 1999.
- ASR pioneered a unique peer-to-peer methodology where we train homeless individuals to both count the homeless and to survey other homeless people.
- ASR's homeless methodology was cited by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as a best practice methodology.
- To count the homeless, ASR trains homeless individuals, homeless service providers and volunteers to team up together and walk through an assigned census tract on a given day or period of several days in order to count the number of homeless people who are living on the streets.
- ASR has completed Homeless Census and Surveys in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Monterey, and Mendocino counties in California.
- Los Angeles County was the largest census and survey ever conducted in the history of the United States.
- ASR has also worked in the greater Atlanta Georgia area and the Southern Nevada region including Las Vegas.
Youth / Foster Teens
- Youth are one of the fastest growing segments of the homeless population and they are one of the most vulnerable populations.
- Foster youth have an especially high rate of entering homelessness once they are emancipated from the Child Welfare System.
- ASR works with communities to survey their homeless populations to determine if some of them are youth and if some were formerly foster children.
- Similarly, ASR surveys the foster youth population in order to assess their likelihood of ending up homeless.
Super NOFA TA
- Applied Survey Research provides technical assistance for HUD's on-line NOFA application for local Continuum homeless projects.
- ASR can generate all responses related to homeless census data including sub-population charts, methodology, annualization calculations, needs assessments and GAP analyses.
- ASR stays current with changing application requirements and definitions and will ensure compliance in data submissions.
