High School Outcome Studies
- ASR works with school districts to answer key questions regarding how well students do after they graduate from high school.
- High School Outcomes Studies focus on the strengths and weaknesses of high school academic, vocational and life-skills related services.
- ASR pioneered a High School Outcome Study in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District (PVUSD) in 2001; prior to the study, there was no systematic method for school districts to find out what students did after high school and whether high school prepared them for their chosen paths.
In 2007, ASR completed a similar study for the Pleasanton Unified School District (PUSD). Click here to view the Pleasanton study.
Safe Schools – Healthy Students
- ASR works with school districts to ensure that schools are safe and students are healthy.
- ASR has evaluated some of the federally funded efforts known as Safe Schools/Healthy Students Projects (SS/HS). These projects are primarily focused on reducing violence and substance abuse.
- ASR also works with school districts to formulate other ways to keep students safe at school.
- One such effort is whether or not high school campuses should be closed during the lunch hour, so that students must stay on campus.
ASR is currently working in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District to evaluate their Safe Schools/Healthy Students (SS/HS) project.
ASR completed a study of closing high school campuses at lunch time in 2007. To view the Hayward Unified School District: Safe School Closed Campus Project, please click here.
Teacher Development
- ASR works with community college districts and Early Childhood Education Departments (ECE) to help support the education of early childhood professionals.
- ASR has special expertise in working with Spanish-speaking communities in helping them to enter and be successful as early childhood educators.
- ASR also provides strategic planning help to community college districts in order to better prepare their early childhood workforce.
In 2004, ASR worked with staff of the San Mateo County Community College District to create a five year strategic plan to help the college district prepare for the future of the Early Childhood Education/ Child Development Department.
ASR also completed two evaluations for the Early Childhood Education/ Child Development Department (ECE) of Cañada College. The goal was to evaluate the impact of the supports to Spanish-speaking ECE students such as free textbooks, tutoring, videos, brochures and counseling services, and to make recommendations for further supports.
